How do you start the year?

Most of us like to start with some sort of assessment of what our students know and can do.  The last few HIP TIPs have been geared toward helping you do just that.  The “Love it or Loathe it” chart and accompanying Writing Checklist can guide us in determining what writing strategies our students need.  And the HIP 3-Minute Oral Reading Checklist and the If-Then chart can help focus on specific reading issues.  A little time upfront can make our teaching more focused, more intentional and more productive.
